I’ve said it before, I love love photographing extended families. It used to intimidate me because it’s usually a larger group of people to direct and it can be stressful. I love seeing the relationships between everyone and feeling the different vibes of each family I get to work with. This darling family is small, but mighty! They laughed and played so much during our session and I loved every minute.
I’m not sure what it is, exactly, but I love hearing birth stories! I just love every detail. This sweet babe’s story is one of my favorites. She simply could not wait to meet her parents and big sisters that she decided to come while her mama was in the master bedroom closet getting dressed before heading to the hospital. Her daddy made it home from work in time to deliver her while on the phone with 911 dispatch and tie off the umbilical cord with a shoestring. It was a wonderful experience going to their home the next day to capture these extra special first portraits. xo Kassidy
The Curtis family are clients who are also some of our dearest and longest friends. I’ve been able to photograph so many beautiful memories for their family over the last 6 or so years and I just love it. This session (I probably say it about each new session I have with them) is my all-time favorite of theirs. We had so much fun and their kids were cracking me up the ENTIRE time. I will never forget his little voice quoting Maui from Disney’s Moana, “Really? Blow dart. In my butt cheek,” and then laughing hysterically. Such good times, haha! xo Kassidy
…Also you may notice that I have a lot of favorites.
I adore this sweet family. They’ve been through a lot, still have so much more to go through, and they are strong and brave through it all! Their darling boy has an immune diffiencey called Chronic Granulomatous Disease which is only possibly curable through a bone marrow transplant. You can read about their journey here.
It was so much fun capturing these images of these four just playing together and loving on each other! Cutest kiddos ever.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a love for capturing moments. For some reason, photos have always been important to me. I was the kid in my family that was always trying to talk my parents into taking family portraits every year. I dressed my younger brother and sister up and took them out to take photos as well. When I first started learning how to make a good photo, I asked my grandfather, whom I’ve always revered, to model for me. He kindly agreed and wore his best suit. I photographed him by his barn. A decade has passed and so has he, and I cherish those images. The thing that breaks my heart is that I only have one image I took of him with my son, and I don’t have any of myself with him. If I had a re-do, I would have those images and more.
I feel like everyone needs portraits of themselves and their children with their grandparents! Grandparents are those special people in our lives that we sometimes take for granted, but they are some of our children’s greatest friends. How special would it be for every kid to have a beautiful picture to look back on that reminds them of how much grandma and grandpa love/loved them?
That was long-winded, but as you can probably tell, I’m pretty passionate on this topic. 🙂 Enjoy my favorite images from this session of L and S with their beloved grands! xo Kassidy
